EA may be preparing for a situation where it has to block the highly popular Ultimate Team mode in FIFA titles.
According to FUT Watch, a website that tracks Ultimate Team across the FIFA series, EA has added some code in a recent update that would allow the publisher to completely disable the online mode in certain territories.
Of course, the news does not necessarily mean that EA is actively planning on removing Ultimate Team from some countries. But it does suggest that the recent lawsuits and scrutiny from governments in Europe have led to the publisher preparing in case it is forced to revoke access.
EA has faced intense critcism and even legal action in countries such as Belgium, with authorities arguing that the loot boxes offered for sale in Ultimate Team constitute gambling. The publisher has already been forced to stop selling FIFA Points in several European regions.
