There’s something wrong with E3 this year. This is the first time in E3’s 25-year existence that journalist Geoff Keighley will not attend. And E3 Coliseum — the special event where Keighley interviews developers and major industry players — is disappearing along with its host.
“Based on what’s been communicated to me about the show, I just don’t feel comfortable participating,” Keighley told The Washington Post. “It’s no secret that E3 needs to evolve and I have lots of ideas around that, but have decided to take a wait-and-see approach.”
He elaborated to Games Industry, “I think E3 needs to be more digital, global and inclusive in its approach to connecting gamers and celebrating the industry.”
Keighley announced his decision to skip E3 2020 in the following tweet.
Keighley’s non-participation comes as the latest blow to E3, as this is the second year in a row where Sony has decided not to visit the legendary event.
Despite that, Microsoft is not going to ignore E3. Other exhibitions will include Activision, Bethesda, Capcom, Epic Games, SEGA, Square Enix, Take-Two, and Ubisoft.
E3 2020 will take place June 9–11 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
