Remember Game Gear — SEGA’s portable console released in 1990? Its fun features include the ability to play SEGA Master System cartridges via an adapter. 30 years later, SEGA will release Game Gear again in a special micro edition in Japan.
To celebrate its 60th anniversary, the company has introduced a series of tiny Game Gear Micro consoles. Game Gear Micro will be available in four colors, with each set containing four different games:
- Black — Sonic the Hedgehog, Out Run, Puyo Puyo Tsu and Royal Stone.
- Blue — Sonic & Tails (aka Sonic Chaos), Gunstar Heroes, Baku Baku Animal and Sylvan Tale.
- Yellow — Shining Force, Shining Force II, Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict and Nazo Puyo: Arle no Roux.
- Red — Columns, The G.G. Shinobi, Revelations: The Demon Slayer and Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special.
Each console will cost 4,980 yen. SEGA will also be preparing a 29,980-yen special set with all four versions of the Game Gear Micro and a special accessory — Big Window, a magnifying glass for the screen!
The Game Gear Micro will be released in Japan on October 6. There’s no mention of a release yet in other countries.
