The System Shock threequel is reported to be in serious trouble. In the last five months, OtherSide Entertainment has lost System Shock 3’s writer/director, lead programmer, design director, and even more. Now, according to an anonymous developer speaking to VGC, the entire team working on the game has been let go.
OtherSide Entertainment bought the publishing rights for System Shock 3 from Starbreeze Studio in February 2019. The game’s creative director Warren Spector told VGC last May that a “lot” of publishers were interested in the game, but now it remains a question.
“Having played the internal SS3 demo, I know the Austin team worked their asses off and made some stunning progress in the past couple of months,” OtherSide’s former community manager Sam Luangkhot posted at the OtherSide Entertainment forums. “It hurts to see many of these developers out of a job on a project they worked so hard on,” he wrote.
The good news is that the System Shock remake is still in development by Night Dive Studios. It is expected to release in the first quarter of 2020.
