Halloween is many people’s favorite time of the year. It is no surprise, then, that many video games have special Halloween events lined up to celebrate the holiday. It provides the perfect opportunity to introduce scary game types, characters, and skins to mix up the gameplay. Here are all of the video games adding Halloween content and events for 2019.

Apex Legends

Respawn Entertainment has revealed that they will be running an Apex Legends Fight or Fright event starting October 15. The event will last until November 5 and give players access to a variety of Halloween-themed content. There are also spooky skins for most of the characters, including a scary clown and a vampire costume.

Moreover, a completely new game mode in the form of Shadowfall. This is a co-operative based mode that sees players dropped into a special night version of the King’s Canyon map. Players who die in the initial stages turn into a zombie-like shadow and must attack the remaining survivors. Once there are only 10 people left alive, they must work together to escape on a helicopter. Watch the official trailer here.

For the last few years, Blizzard has organized Halloween Terror at the end of October for Overwatch players. This year is no different and from October 15 until November 5, a variety of extra content will be available. This includes an array of cosmetic items, such as weapon skins, costumes, and emotes. The vast majority of them can be found in loot boxes. Although you also unlock some by completing weekly challenges that involve winning a certain amount of games per week.

Blizzard has also brought back Junkenstein’s Revenge, a co-operative game mode. In it, players have to battle against waves of enemies and defend the gates of the castle in Adlersbrunn.

Fortnite

Fornite has been updated with its annual Fortnitemares event, which runs from October 29–November 4. The Halloween event comes shortly after the new Chapter 2 map debuted on October 15.

The Halloween challenges will focus on the Storm King. He is a new boss being added to the game that you battle to complete all the new challenges. These include destroying haunted furniture, searching for chests in spooky locations, and finally killing the Storm King. Bungie is once again bringing back the Festival of the Loot event in Destiny 2. Starting on October 29 and lasting until November 19, the content will be available to all players. The developer has confirmed that the Haunted Forest is returning. This is a special gauntlet that players have to get through in a set time to unlock special rewards.

Festival of the Loot will also introduce scary cosmetic masks and weapon skins. Candy also comes back, which you can use as currency to buy the Braytech Werewolf Legendary Auto Rifle.

Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO is still one of the most popular games in the world. One of the ways that it has remained successful is by constantly updating the game. That continues with Halloween in 2019 with a host of changes. Between October 17 and November 1, players will come across more ghost- and shadow-type Pokémon.

Some of the creatures might also appear in Halloween costumes, while new items are available in the style shop. Additionally, Darkrai will be added to high-level raids. Finally, Niantic is introducing Yamask for the very first time.

Running from October 18 until November 1, Hallow’s End is World of Warcraft’s annual Halloween event. Both the normal and classic versions of the game will experience the event. However, there will be differences. Locations such as Stormwind, Darnassus, Orgrimmar, Exodar, and Silvermoon have decorations to appear spooky. Each also has special quests that players can take part in for Halloween-inspired rewards.

Inns across the in-game world will let players talk to them every 30 minutes for a chance to get a trick or treat. These will either give a special costume that lets you transform into a creature or a treat such as candy or masks. Defeating the Headless Horseman also provides a chance to get the Hallow’s End mount.

Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 has one of the longest-running events, “Bloody Harvest.” It will last from October 24–December 5. Bloody Harvest allows players to travel to a new location called Heck and battle against an assortment of undead enemies. Defeating the final boss, Captain Haunt, will reward the player with new skins and weapons.

Enemies throughout the game can also now be Haunted, meaning they can infect you with Terror. This will make aiming far harder by clouding your vision. However, defeating these enemies will provide Hecktoplasm that you can use to open a portal to Heck.
