As part of The Last of Us Day on Sept. 26, franchise fans got their first look at the upcoming The Last of Us series on HBO. And this image has created a serious buzz among fans hoping for a faithful adaptation of their favorite game.

What is our first look at ‘The Last of Us’ HBO series?

In this case, our first look at the TV show is a single image. And the image shows Pedro Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie from behind as the two examine a crashed plane on a farm. While there isn’t much to go on here, the image shows a pretty faithful recreation of both the characters and the moody vibe from the game.

Adaptations are always tricky. Fans never know if a series will recreate their favorite game or book in a faithful way or try to create its own original narrative.

For The Last of Us on HBO, we know that the show is mostly going to cover the events of the first game. While there is room for additional stories and material, we should see a relatively faithful adaptation of the original game. It is very unlikely we will see much (if anything) adapting the game’s sequel at this point.
