Right after the RE: Village announcement, Capcom stated an important achievement of the franchise: now total shipments of all Resident Evil games have exceeded 100 million copies. This is the first series in Capcom’s history to reach such a high mark.
In 24 years of existence, Resident Evil has become Capcom’s flagship intellectual property and it is actively supported by loyal fans around the world. More than 80% of its games were sold in countries outside of Japan.
The previous game, Resident Evil 7, now has 7.5 million copies sold. Capcom hasn’t told the public yet about the their expectations of RE: Village sales, but it should be announced in the next financial report.
Let’s cautiously assume that the circulation will be held back by the platforms: the Village will be released in 2021 only on PC and next-gen consoles, and the number of sold copies for next-gen might be much lower than if it would be for the current generation of consoles.
