October is often seen as the beginning of the launch window for AAA video games. After a quiet few months during the summer period, publishers get set to release their biggest titles of the year. The run-up to the holidays means that it is a lucrative season. Consumers are willing to spend the most money on new titles as they buy new hardware or hunt for gifts.
However, it can be a little overwhelming to keep up-to-date with every single game release, especially when there are so many great examples. For that reason, we’ve run down a list of the most important games released in October and where to buy them.
Destiny 2: Shadowkeep
Although it is not technically a new game, Destiny 2: Shadowkeep does mark a significant shift for Bungie’s looter shooter. This is the first piece of content they have developed since parting ways with Activision. As such, it gives players a good indication of what the future of the series could be.
Destiny 2 includes a whole host of gameplay changes as well as new locations to explore. Most importantly, it comes with a completely new story arc to keep the narrative fresh and interesting. For those who haven’t tried Destiny 2 yet, the developer also released a free version called New Light that provides strikes, multiplayer PvP, and story content at no cost.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint
Ghost Recon Breakpoint sees players returning to Ubisoft’s latest incarnation of the franchise. Following on from Ghost Recon Wildlands, this new game has a much bigger world and a stronger focus on survival.
Players have to contend with enemies who are just as strong as them and have access to the same type of equipment. There’s a lengthy campaign that can be played in co-op as well as competitive multiplayer. Additionally, players can choose between four different classes.

John Wick Hex
John Wick has become a hugely popular series over the last few years. With a trilogy of movies already released, it was just a matter of time before a video game adaptation came about. Mike Bithell, previously known for his indie games Thomas Was Alone and Volume, was chosen to head the project.
Available for PC and Mac (with future plans for console release), John Wick Hex acts as a prequel to the plot of the films. Players have to manage their time effectively to strategically plan out their moves.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is several years old now. It has previously released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Yet, this is the first time that it is has arrived on a Nintendo platform in the form of the Switch. A port to this particular console didn’t seem all that likely considering the technical limitations of the hardware.
Being able to play as Geralt as he travels around The Northern Kingdoms on-the-go is a completely new experience. Even more impressive is that the game looks and plays incredibly well despite the restrictions of the Nintendo Switch. If you have never played The Witcher 3 before, now might be the perfect chance to pick it up.

The Outer Worlds
In The Outer Worlds, players take on the role of a man who comes out of cryosleep early and has to explore the outskirts of space when his ship’s faster-than-light drive fails.
Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, few games have a pedigree as good as The Outer Worlds. The company has worked on titles such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Fallout: New Vegas, and Pillars of Eternity. The team created this role-playing game with the hope of striking a balance between a dark, compelling story and silly fun.
Currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, The Outer Worlds will eventually see a Nintendo Switch launch at an unannounced date.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
A soft reboot of the Call of Duty game that kick-started the surge in popularity of modern first-person shooters, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the 2019 installment of this annual franchise.
The developers have concentrated on telling a gritty and realistic story, where the player has to make moral decisions that change how the action unfolds.
Activision has revealed that DLC will be free when it launches in the future. For the very first time, users will also be able to utilize cross-play connectivity. This means that you can play against others on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One regardless of the platform you are using.

Luigi’s Mansion 3
Luigi’s Mansion was a surprise hit when it originally released in 2001 for the GameCube. Next Level Games developed this new entry in the franchise exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
Luigi’s Mansion 3 follows directly on from Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, with the player controlling Luigi after King Boo tricks him and other Mushroom Kingdom residents into visiting the hotel.
