These include the standard annual sports games, ports to new consoles, and even a few completely fresh titles. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout 

Release Date: August 4, 2020

Platforms:  PC and PlayStation 4

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is a party game that looks like a colorful version of Total Wipeout or Ninja Warrior. Up to 60 players can join up together online, avoiding obstacles and battling to be the last person standing. Promising to be chaotic and exciting, it should be plenty of fun for people of all ages.

Skully

Release Date: August 4, 2020

Platforms:  Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

Skully is a unique puzzle game that has elements of several different genres. Most notably, it resembles the Marble Blast series. Players take control of a reanimated skull that has been given life by a mysterious deity. As part of a complex story, Skully must help prevent a war between a trio of gods. 

Fast & Furious Crossroads 

Release Date: August 7, 2020

Platform: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

As you might have guessed from the name, Fast & Furious Crossroads is a video game based on the movie franchise. A sort of hybrid between a standard racing game and an action RPG, it was delayed in May. That was a result of the COVID-19 pandemic pushing back the release of Fast & Furious 9. In the upcoming game, players will visit various locations from the series in a new narrative. 

Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition

Release Date: August 7, 2020

Platform: PC

Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition is the PC port of the former PlayStation 4 exclusive. This will allow players to experience the game on another platform for the first time. The PC edition also comes with a variety of graphical enhancements and improvements when compared to the console release. As a complete edition, the game also includes all previously released DLC along with the original story of Aloy.

Inertial Drift

Release Date: August 7, 2020

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

Inertial Drift is a twin-stick racer that takes an innovative approach to the racing genre. As the name suggests, this game is all about drifting. The developers promise that the gameplay is completely unique and exhilarating fun. Set in the not-so-distant future, it takes inspiration from the ’90s for its visual style. There’s also an extensive selection of cars and tracks to keep players coming back.

This game might have a clumsy name but it is a game to watch out for. Especially if you are a fan of Japanese RPGs. Following the story from the DanMachi anime, this edition included a selection of brand new content. Staples of the genre, like sim dating and real-time combat, are present, along with a deep story.

A Total War Saga: Troy

Release Date: August 13, 2020

Platform: PC

A Total War Saga: Troy is the latest game in this long-running strategy series. This time around, the action takes place in the Bronze Age. It centers on the Trojan War between Troy and Mycenaean Greece. The game is exclusive to the Epic Games Store for the first year, though. That means those wanting to play it on Steam will have to wait until 2021.

UFC 4 

Release Date: August 14, 2020

Platforms: PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

August is a busy month for EA. The first title released from their library in the month is UFC 4. This is the official game based on the mixed-martial-arts fighting franchise. The series didn’t have a release in 2019 so this is the first title in two years. EA has promised to include a number of improvements over the last entry, including new takedowns and additional features.

Microsoft Flight Simulator

Release Date: August 18, 2020

Microsoft Flight Simulator is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year. Microsoft first announced they were working on a new entry in the series several years ago. Fans have been understandably excited about the release, with the previous installment coming way back in 2006. Taking data from Bing Maps, Microsoft Flight Simulator will realistically portray the world using Microsoft Azure technology. 

Pastel: Blind Karma

Release Date: August 20, 2020

Platform: PC

Pastel: Blind Karma is a throwback to classic puzzle adventure games from the 1990s. Players take on the role of a fox who is suffering from amnesia. The story takes place across time and space, forcing you to learn about the lore of your character and the planet you find yourself on. Perhaps most exciting of all are the beautiful visuals that are on display, especially in the various environments.

Remnant: From the Ashes – Complete Edition

Release Date: August 20, 2020

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

Remnant: From the Ashes – Complete Edition is the ultimate edition of the action shooter. As well as the content from the original release of the post-apocalyptic campaign, it also includes a variety of DLC. This includes the upcoming Subject 2923 expansion that releases on the same day. For anyone who has yet to experience the game, this could be the perfect way to jump into the story.

Aokana – Four Rhythms Across the Blue

Aokana – Four Rhythms Across the Blue is a visual novel that has already been available since 2014. However, this will be the first time players can enjoy the action on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. This edition of the title includes all the enhancements that were added to the PC remaster in 2019.

PGA Tour 2K21

Release Date: August 21, 2020

PGA Tour 2K21 is a new golf game that is set to add some real competition to the market. After EA lost the license to the PGA, 2K Games picked it up. With very few golf titles available, this could be an important release. The developer promises unrivaled realism in character models and courses as well as new gameplay features. 

Madden 21

Release Date: August 25, 2020

Platform: PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

EA’s second big release in August, Madden 21 is the latest entry in the long-running NFL series. Like any annual sports game, players shouldn’t expect anything too drastic. After all, the developer EA Tiburon takes an evolutionary rather than a revolutionary approach to improving the experience. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any changes, even though the publisher has been criticized for a lack of innovation. 

No Straight Roads

Release Date: August 25, 2020

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

No Straight Roads is all about starting a rock band and taking down enemies. The action involves a pulsing soundtrack and fast-paced fighting, combining rhythm gameplay with third-person combat. The right colorful visuals give it an appealing look while the intense music should keep everything exciting.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition 

Release Date: August 27, 2020

Platforms: Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is a new edition of the game for consoles. This time around, the Final Fantasy franchise takes to the dungeon crawler genre. The big new features include online co-op and the ability to play the game for free. Any progress made in the Lite version of the title, which covers the first three levels, will carry over if upgraded.

Surgeon Simulator 2

The physics-based medical drama returns in the form of Surgeon Simulator 2 in August. Carrying on the hilarious but difficult gameplay from the original game, this sequel includes a variety of new features. Chief among them is a new four-player co-op mode. There’s also additional online features, more intricate puzzles, and further mini-games. 

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions

Release Date: August 28, 2020

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 4

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is a brand new soccer game from Bandai Namco. Unlike other sports titles, this game does not focus on realistic simulation. Instead, the anime-style experience puts the emphasis on over the top action. So if you are bored of traditional soccer games and want to try something new, this could be the perfect release.

Jump Force Deluxe Edition

Platform: Nintendo Switch

Jump Force is an anime fighting game that has been available on other platforms since early this year. The title is finally coming to Nintendo Switch in August. The major features of this fighter are that it includes a number of powerful manga characters. This includes series such as Dragon Ball, Naruto, and One Piece

Project Cars 3

Release Date: August 28, 2020

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

Project Cars 3 is the third game from Slightly Mad Studios. Unlike its two predecessors, this sequel will focus on customization. That should give players more options when it comes to choosing what and where to race. There are also added features such as changing seasons and a day-night cycle as well as support for VR headsets.

Wasteland 3

Release Date: August 28, 2020

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

In 2013, inXile Entertainment released Wasteland 2. This game was a direct sequel to the ’90s post-apocalyptic RPG. Now the same developer is set to release a third entry in the franchise. Like its predecessors, it is a squad-based RPG that focuses on a deep narrative and turn-based combat. Wasteland 3 will also include a co-op mode so that it can be played online with another player.

Windbound 

Release Date: August 28, 2020

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

Windbound is a survival experience. Shipwrecked on an island with no idea where you are, players must somehow manage to stay alive. With little to help in that goal, users will have to craft tools and gather resources. Ultimately, you’ll explore further islands and uncover a mystery that binds these mysterious lands together. 

Serious Sam 4

Release Date: August 2020 TBA

Platform: PC

Serious Sam 4 is the first main game in the series for many years. The fourth entry in the first-person shooter franchise promises the same kind of explosive and gory detail fans have come to expect. Taking place across various planets, it also includes the series’ trademark humor. Unfortunately, there’s no set release date yet, but Steam lists a release date of August 2020.
