There may be no better example of this than the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. It turned a relatively unknown (unless you were into skating) Tony Hawk into a household name. It turned skateboard’s rising popularity into mainstream worldwide fame. And it introduced an entire generation to punk and ska music that never really left our heads.

Let’s start with the good news: this remake looks absolutely amazing!
Sometimes, game remakes come across as a quick cash grab, and the graphics look barely better than what you remember. Every now and then, though, you find a remake that really takes your breath away.
That’s the case with the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater remake. If you have any doubts, all you need to do is check out the sizzling preview trailer. Not only have these games never looked so good, but this remake looks like it can easily stand shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the best-looking modern games.
When does Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater remake come out?
It’s true what they say: waiting is the hardest part! They announced remakes of these games in mid-May. If you’re interested in playing, you’ve probably got a simple question: when are these games coming out?
Fortunately, players aren’t going to have to wait that long to start practicing their ollies once more. Right now, the remake has a firm release date of September 4, 2020.
That’s actually pretty good timing. It lets anticipation build over the summer. At the same time, this September release won’t be overshadowed by the release of next generation consoles.
How much does Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater remake cost?
Remake pricing is a difficult thing. No matter how much time and effort developers pour into the remake, the game will still come across as “vintage.” Or, if you’re less generous, it will come across as old!
Good news, then: this remake clocks in at only $39.99. That’s a full $20 cheaper than a standard new game. And if that still seems a bit much, keep in mind that this price includes the remake for each game.
When you think about it that way, the cost of each individual remake is about $19.99. In my always humble opinion, that’s a perfectly fair price point.
What platforms will Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater remake release on?
Now you know when you can play it and how much it will cost. But that leads to the inevitable question: where will you be able to play this game?
For console gamers, the remake is slated for a release on Xbox One and PS4. There won’t be a special next generation version, but this game should be playable on both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility.
The remake is also available on PC, but in a more limited fashion than you might expect. The PC version is going to be exclusive to Epic Games!
What about Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Collector’s Edition?
If you’re a modern gamer, you know the drill. It seems like there is almost never a single version of a game, and this remake is no different. That means you must choose which of the multiple editions you plan to buy.
There will be the standard version (which is just the game “as is”) and the Collector’s Edition. The latter features extra “retro content” for your Create-a-Skater mode and retro outfits for Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, and Steve Caballero. You’ll also get access to Powell-Peralta’s “The Ripper” skater.
What are Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater pre-order bonuses?
Regardless of which version you buy, there are certain bonuses for pre-ordering. And some of these bonuses are much better than others.
For instance, if you pre-order a physical copy of the game, you get a free Tony Hawk miniature fingerboard. While that’s cool and all, those who pre-order on the PlayStation Store get free, early access to a demo featuring the famous Warehouse stage from the first game!
Is Tony Hawk involved in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater remake?
Tony Hawk was very involved in the original game, and he actively promoted the franchise for many years. When it comes to the remake, though, is Tony Hawk still involved?
The answer to that is a big “yes!” Hawk has helped spread the word about this remake and has even sung praises about the gameplay via Youtube. According to Hawk, “It’s obvious that they are fans of the game so when I started playing it, it felt like the same response… yet the visuals were way over the top.”
Needless to say, if it’s good enough for Tony Hawk, it’s good enough for the rest of us!
This is only the beginning
So far, the remakes are only focusing on the first two games in the series. But can fans expect to see more remakes of other games in the franchise? Tony Hawk seems to think so!
In an interview with Geoff Keighley, Hawk called remakes of the first two games “the jumping-off point” and said, “I would love to be able to do more down the line. I think that we can make this stuff look spectacular.”
While that’s not a definite “yes,” it seems like Hawk is ready to shepherd a new generation of gamers and skaters into the entirety of his famous franchise.
