Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been a successful return to form for Activision. The game takes the series back to its roots, with stripped back gameplay and a more simplified multiplayer. One of the things that have excited fans the most about the new title is the inclusion of some old favorites in terms of maps. The developers included several classic multiplayer arenas, which are some of the most popular ever in the series. These include the likes of Crash, Shipment, and Vacant, which are regularly cited as the best in the series.
Of course, there are still plenty of other maps from the original games that fans would like to see brought back. A few of them are from the Modern Warfare franchise but others come from spin-offs such as Black Ops. Whatever the case, fans have been very vocal asking for these specific maps in upcoming DLC.
Highrise
Highrise is one of the most popular maps from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Set atop a skyscraper in the middle of a bustling city, it is a relatively small map. Because it has lots of close-quarters spaces as well as open locations, it allows for a variety of tactics. This makes it suitable for lots of game types, but it is particularly suited for Domination thanks to a tunnel system. It has also already been remade for Call of Duty Online.
Nuketown
Nuketown is perhaps the most famous Call of Duty map of all time. It first featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops and developers have revived it in every Black Ops sequel since then. However, it would also make a great addition to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, especially for modes like Gunfight. As one of the smallest maps in the franchise, it has plenty of tight spaces to create intense and chaotic action.
Estate
Another Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 map that fans are requesting is Estate. This is a medium-sized arena that features elements from both that game’s campaign and Special Ops modes. A large house sitting in the middle of grassy terrain, there are lots of elevated positions and sightlines. It is well-liked for objective game types as the main building makes a perfect base for all kinds of objectives.
Favela
Favela has remained a popular multiplayer map in the Call of Duty series. Originally set to launch for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare as DLC, it launched in the sequel. Its popularity also ensured a release in Call of Duty: Ghosts as part of the Invasion Map Pack. Located in the slums of Brazil, the studio designed it to force players into close-quarters combat. However, the vertical design of many buildings also provides lots of spaces for sniping.
Terminal
Terminal is a multiplayer map that was originally included in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Based on the infamous campaign mission “No Russian,” it features an airport lounge as well as a runway and airplane. As one of the most popular maps in that game, it was later ported to the sequel. Variants have also arrived on Call of Duty Online and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Perfectly suited for 6v6 team deathmatch battles, it would make a great addition to the new game.
Bloc
Made up of two large apartment buildings surrounding an open courtyard, Bloc is a map from the original Modern Warfare. There are also several smaller spaces scattered behind the main structures. Thanks to a mixture of environments, it allows for lots of different types of gunfights. Snipers can cover the courtyard while those wanting to get up close and personal can stick to the apartment complexes.
Firing Range
Firing Range is another multiplayer map that debuted in Call of Duty: Black Ops. Developers have ported it to Call of Duty Online and Call of Duty: Mobile alongside every Black Ops sequel. This is largely because it was hugely popular and is suitable for a wide variety of modes. With no large open spaces, it allows for lots of close and medium-range combat. But Firing Range also has enough cover for objective-based gameplay and a more tactical approach.
Rust
Rust was designed to be something of a spiritual successor to Shipment in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Although it is a lot larger than that map, it is still very much focused on close-quarters combat. Set in the middle of a desert, the area is inspired by the campaign mission “Endgame.” At the center is a large tower structure with pipes and containers surrounding it to provide some cover.
Afghan
Similar in structure to Crash, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 map Afghan would be a welcome addition. Players enjoy the variety of different tactics and gameplay scenarios it offers. After all, the map contains plenty of open areas and tight spaces, allowing for sniping and confined gunfights. It has little cover so it does not suit objective game types but works well in Team Deathmatch.
Overgrown
Overgrown has been a regular inclusion in Call of Duty games ever since it first appeared in Modern Warfare. It has three distinct locations and a large amount of vegetation that provides cover. The map suits medium or large scale matches and can support a wide array of different modes. Several smaller buildings provide spaces for close action, while the outside is perfect for sniping due to its open nature.
