Square Enix Has No Idea How Many Parts Final Fantasy VII Remake Will Be

April 28, 2020

The Final Fantasy VII Remake Ultimania tutorial book is now available in Japan and it also includes interviews with the game developers. Gematsu has posted an English translation of their responses.

According to producer Yoshinori Kitase, the team doesn’t have an exact idea how many parts the remake will consist of. “It’s not something we can definitively say. The widespread speculation seems to be that it’ll be a trilogy,” Kitase said. This might be some kind of hint and doubt at the same time.

As co-director Tetsuya Nomura adds, the speed of release depends on the number of parts: if the authors decide to make fewer episodes, each episode will become larger and the production time will increase. Nomura prefers the idea of releasing smaller parts more often. But again, the team didn’t reach a consensus yet.

It’s hard to predict when the next chapter of Final Fantasy VII Remake will be announced. On the one hand, Square Enix is swinging at quite a long duration of the episodes with serious plot changes. On the other hand, many elements of the remake are already prepared, so the development of the sequel might go much faster.
