Nintendo has announced “roughly 20 minutes of new Pokémon information in a livestreamed Pokémon Direct presentation.” It will air on Thursday, January 9 at 6:30 a.m. PT / 9:30 a.m. ET. The broadcast will be livestreamed on the Nintendo website, as well as Nintendo’s YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, and Twitter channels.
It is unknown exactly what the presentation will reveal. Pokémon Sword and Shield were released last November, breaking several records. The games sold more than six million copies worldwide in their opening weekend. Additionally, Sword and Shield attained the highest launch month U.S. sales of the Pokémon franchise.
However, Sword and Shield were not without some controversy. The games were criticized for only including 400 Pokémon, less than half of the Pokémon that exist in the franchise. It is possible Nintendo’s livestream will address some of the complaints. We’ll just have to wait till Thursday.
