Players have expressed disappointment and frustration over the recently introduced transmog feature in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Transmog, which Ubisoft bills as “change appearance,” is a mechanic that allows users to swap the stats and appearance of items. It is a common feature found in many MMOs and RPGs, giving players the opportunity to swap how gear looks while ensuring they don’t lose the benefits of having the gear equipped.
This feature was previously available in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and fans have long requested it be added to the latest entry in the series. On Tuesday, Ubisoft finally added Transmog to Valhalla in their Title Update 1.2.0 patch.
However, comments on the official Assassin’s Creed Valhalla subreddit suggest that many fans are not happy with the way it has been implemented.
Unlike in most other titles and this game’s direct predecessor, using the transmog ability is not a menu option. Instead, players have to visit the blacksmith Gunnar at the settlement and pay 50 silver — a currency that can be bought with real-world money via microtransactions.
While the process has caused anger, others are also upset that the change appearance option does not provide a preview feature. It’s also necessary to sit through lengthy dialogue for every item users want to change.
