Fans were “shaken, not stirred” on Thursday to learn that Hitman developer IO Interactive is working on a new James Bond game, currently codenamed Project 007.
Yesterday, we reported the company’s plans to make a big announcement about their next project. While many assumed it would be another Hitman title, it seems IO will be focusing on everybody’s favorite secret agent rather than their favorite secret assassin.
The teaser trailer released today doesn’t tell us much about the game or the gameplay. But a press release from IO calls this a “wholly original Bond story.”
More intriguingly, IO claims they will be showing us “the very first James Bond origin story.” The game is being developed for PC, Playstation 5, and Xbox Series S and X.
James Bond games (movie-based and completely original games) have been mostly disappointing since the seminal Goldeneye 007 on the Nintendo 64. Perhaps this next tale for next-generation gaming systems will bring the missing spark fans have been craving.
