Sega has announced a Sonic Central livestream to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog. The livestream will take place on Thursday, May 27 at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. BST on Sega’s official YouTube and Twitch channels for Sonic the Hedgehog.
The broadcast promises “a first look at some of our upcoming projects, partnerships, and events to celebrate Sonic’s 30th anniversary!”
Among the upcoming games that might be discussed is are the as-yet-unannounced Sonic Colors Remastered (news of the project leaked in April via a German voiceover studio) and Sonic Collection for PS4 (which is rumored via a since-deleted listing on French retailer SoGamely).
As far as other media go, the livestream might cover the upcoming live-action/CGI theatrical movie sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the Netflix animated series Sonic Prime, both set for release in 2022.
The first Sonic the Hedgehog video game was released on June 23, 1991 on Sega Genesis.
On Tuesday, Sega released a video on Twitter celebrating the 30-year history of Sonic with a nostalgic look at the video games, comics, animated series, and movies that have been released over the years.
