There hasn’t been a true Nintendo Direct since September 4, 2019. But Nintendo has scheduled the next one and promises we will get a glimpse of their 2021 game lineup.
Nintendo fans need to set their alarm clocks. The new Nintendo Direct will broadcast on Wednesday, February 17, at 2 p.m. ET.
Nintendo dropped this news on unsuspecting fans on Twitter. They promise to show gamers “roughly 50 minutes of information focused on available games like Super #SmashBrosUltimate and games coming to #NintendoSwitch in the first half of 2021.”
At this point, fans can only speculate what kind of news Nintendo will be dropping. But the big hope for many fans concerns The Legend of Zelda franchise.
Many gamers noticed that the Nintendo Direct is coming only four days before the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. For the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. in 2020, the company celebrated by releasing Super Mario 3D All-Stars.
This compilation game contained HD versions of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. The company also released an online-only battle royale game called Super Mario Bros. 35 and put Super Mario All-Stars on Nintendo Switch Online. And all of this was in addition to quirkier releases like a special Mario Game & Watch and even the ambitious real-life/Switch-enhanced racing game, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit.
What does all this mean for Legend of Zelda fans? With Link and Zelda’s anniversary coming up, some fans are hoping for Switch ports of games Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Windwaker, and Twilight Princess. Other fans would settle for a proper sequel to the hit game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
While these Zelda franchise hopes are just speculation, Smash Bros. fans have something more definitive to look forward to. Nintendo has promised we will be getting news about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. With any luck, Nintendo will reveal the next character for the game after Sephiroth.
The only way to find out for sure what “The Big N” has planned is to watch the 50-minute broadcast on February 17!
