Good news for Nier fans: Square Enix has announced a Nier Replicant remaster for PC, Xbox One and PS4 along with a new mobile title called Re[in]carnation.
The new version of Nier Replicant, called ver.1.22474487139…, will be released worldwide for all current-gen platforms. The original Nier, a spin-off of the Drakengard series, came out in 2010 in two versions: Replicant for PlayStation 3 and Gestalt for Xbox 360. The only difference was the age of the main protagonist and his relationship with the character Yonah: Yonah is Nier’s daughter in Gestalt and Nier’s sister in Replicant.
Here is a short list of improvements for the remaster:
- Re-recorded OST and some new songs
- New in-game features to make gameplay fresh for returning players
- A new character confirmed
- The dialogue will be fully voiced (in Japan at least)
- The Japanese voice actors for 2B (Yui Ishikawa) and 9S (Natsuki Hanae) will have small cameos in the game
Additionally, there is news about Nier Re[in]carnation — a free-to-play mobile game being developed by Applibot for iOS and Android. Yoko Taro, Keiichi Okabe and Yosuke Saito (key figures of the Nier franchise) are working on this mobile title, so the risk of getting anything but a mind-blowing experience is extremely low.
The release dates are unknown, but it seems possible to see these games during 2020.
Here is some more good news for you: Nier Automata shipments and digital sales exceeded 4.5 million copies worldwide on all platforms by March 2020. NieR: Automata: Become as Gods Edition (an enhanced version of the game with add-ons and other in-game content) will be added to Xbox Game Pass subscription for Xbox One on April 4.
