The scale of the newly announced Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is not clear. On the one hand, there will be a completely different main character hinting at a direct plot continuation. On the other hand, it is too fast to make such a full-fledged new game in just two years. Sony’s representative made it a little clearer in comments for The Telegraph.
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s EVP head of European Business, Simon Rutter describes it as “more akin to an expansion bolted on to an upgraded version of the original title.”
“I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game,” he said. “There’s a substantial Miles Morales component — which is the expansion element — but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.”
Jason Schreier compares Miles Morales with Uncharted: Lost Legacy — a game that was supposed to be a DLC for Uncharted 4, but eventually turned into a small independent product. The gameplay basis in Lost Legacy remained the same as Uncharted 4, but the plot was new and its length is much shorter than the original. Something similar will happen in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
