WB’s MultiVersus Has an Official Trailer

November 18, 2021

MultiVersus, an upcoming Smash Bros.-style game featuring different Warner Bros. properties, has been gaming’s worst-kept secret. Now, the game has been officially announced, and a trailer dropped today to give us a better look at this game.

At a glance, this game seems to be exactly what you’d expect: a chance for players to pit different iconic WB characters against each other. Would Arya Stark be able to defeat Harley Quinn? Can Shaggy take on Superman? These are the kinds of bonkers questions this game sets out to answer.

It’s easy to dismiss this game as another wannabe Smash Bros. However, the trailer does show us some unique new ideas, including an experience that encourages collaboration and cooperation instead of button mashing. Additionally, it looks like each character will have their own progression system, and there will be plenty of skins to unlock.

Who all will be in the game? Below, we have the confirmed roster:

Loading...

  • Batman
  • Shaggy (Scooby-Doo)
  • Superman
  • Bugs Bunny
  • Wonder Woman
  • Arya Stark (Game of Thrones)
  • Harley Quinn
  • Finn the Human (Adventure Time)
  • Jake the Dog (Adventure Time)
  • Tom and Jerry
  • Steven Universe
  • Garnet (Steven Universe)
  • Reindog (an original character created for this game)

When this game was first announced, many (including myself) thought it looked like the kind of cheap, IP-exploiting move that, ironically, Space Jam: A New Legacy made fun of. But WB went out of its way to bring in strong actors (like Matthew Lillard, Maisie Williams, Tara Strong, Kevin Conroy, and many more). And the trailer explicitly mentions “rollback netcode,” which provides for a more stable online fighting game experience.

Put it all together and you have a game worth watching out for. We don’t have a release date yet, but this free-to-play game will be launching sometime next year for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
