Every Video Game Release Date for January 2022

January is never traditionally a big month for the gaming industry. After the busy period in the run-up to the holiday season, there’s little left to come out. Most publishers and developers have aimed to get their biggest releases out in stores in time for Christmas. But that does not mean that there aren’t any games coming out over the next four weeks to keep players entertained.

Along with a collection of indie titles and delayed titles, there are also a few heavy hitters that have been eagerly anticipated. This includes new Rainbow Six and Pokémon games as well as a high-profile PlayStation game finally coming to PC.

So if you are already tired of all the titles that have been released over the past couple of months, here is every video game release for January 2022 to keep an eye out for.

Super Sami Roll

Release Date: January 10

Platforms: Xbox Series X|S

The first game set to launch in January is Super Sami Roll, a title that is already available on a number of other platforms. It is now due to release on Xbox Series X|S, bringing the colorful 3D platformer to the console. The game features challenging gameplay that never frustrates in a world filled with vibrant creatures and enemies. Players can use a variety of skills and abilities, including a fast roll and an air-grapple.

Weird West 

Release Date: January 11

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

Weird West challenges players to uncover a dark fantasy in this reimagined Wild West setting. Sheriffs and gunslingers inhabit the world alongside fantasy creatures. An immersive simulator, players will have to discover the mysterious story and characters in a world that is unique to each playthrough. It has been developed by some of those responsible for the hit titles Dishonored and Prey.

PUBG: Battlegrounds

Release Date: January 12

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

The hit battle royale game that helped kickstart the genre is going free-to-play in January. That means anyone can play the title for free without having to purchase a copy, although certain features will only be available to those with a Plus account rather than a Basic account. That includes Ranked Mode and Custom Matches, as well as exclusive rewards such as bonus G-Coins.

The Anacrusis 

Release Date: January 13

Platforms: PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

The Anacrusis is a four-player first-person shooter where players must work together to survive against a horde of aliens. Trapped on a starship on the edges of space, the co-op shooter sees players in randomized locations with a huge variety of different perks and weapons available to find. This all adds up to create a game that can be replayed hundreds of times with unique experiences.

Mushroom Wars 2

Release Date: January 13

Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

Available on PC since 2017, Mushroom Wars 2 is now coming to consoles. Tasked with defending against tribes of mushroom creatures, players must battle in this four-player RTS game. What makes this distinct from other titles in the RTS genre is the quick pace and simplified gameplay, making it the perfect choice for those who find similar games too complicated or stressful.

God of War

Release Date: January 14

Platforms: PC

The previously exclusive action-adventure game from Santa Monica Studio is now coming to PC. Like other Sony games that have come to PC, God of War features a number of enhancements and improvements compared to the original game. This includes high fidelity graphics, support for NVIDIA DLSS, and customizable controls. In the title, players take on the role of Kratos as he mentors his son Atreus through a new land.

Expeditions: Rome

Release Date: January 20

Platforms: PC

Expeditions: Rome is a role-playing game with turn-based gameplay. Players must attempt to conquer foreign lands as a commander of their own legion of Roman soldiers using combat and politics to gain the upper hand. Shaping the future of Rome with your actions, the legacy of the famous city will be determined by how players choose to play the game.

Rainbow Six Extraction

Release Date: January 20

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

Rainbow Six Extraction, originally called Quarantine, is a tactical shooter and spin-off of the 2015 game Rainbow Six Siege. A co-op multiplayer title, players have to work together to survive against and defeat a group of parasitic aliens known as Archaeans. Many operators from the main game will return in the horde-like follow-up and will have their unique gadgets and abilities. 

WARNO

Release Date: January 20

WARNO is a World War III battle simulator that is described as both realistic and immersive. In a reality where the Cold War escalated to all-out conflict, players command hundreds of units on large battlefields in an effort to outsmart and overpower the enemy. There are both singleplayer campaigns and multiplayer battles, featuring up to 20 different players fighting as part of opposing teams. 

Windjammers 2

Release Date: January 20

Platforms: Nintendo Switch and PC

Windjammers 2 is a flying disc game, where players throw a frisbee-like item at opponents. Based on the classic game, it mixes retro gameplay with brand new mechanics in a fast-paced and frantic experience. With power movies, dynamic courts, and new moves, there’s plenty to keep fans of the original entertained. 

Hidden Deep 

Release Date: January 24

Platforms: PC

Hidden Deep is an atmospheric game influenced by franchises such as Aliens and Half-Life. Trapped inside an underground research building, players have to explore the facility and uncover the dark secrets and horrors that lie below the surface.A 2D game, players have to complete puzzles and command a team to operate the equipment and machinery.

Reverie Knights Tactics

Release Date: January 25

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

Turn-based tactical RPG Reverie Knights Tactics pits players against a variety of enemies on isometric battlefields. With hand-drawn graphics and a rich narrative, players take control of a gang of heroes. Every decision can change the course of the entire story and alter the way the game plays. 

Diplomacy Is Not An Option

Release Date: January 26

Platforms: PC 

Diplomacy Is Not An Option sees players take on the role of a feudal lord. But the leader has grown bored of his normal life and craves the excitement of war. He dreams of a time when diplomacy will no longer dictate his decisions and he can instead focus on fighting. To that end, he commands his soldiers against invaders attacking his castle.

Kingdom of the Dead

Release Date: January 26

Platforms: PC

Kingdom of the Dead is a hand-drawn horror where players fight against the armies of the underworld. With a first-person perspective, the game sees players take on the role of a professor turned army general who has to defeat Death and his army by closing the Gates of Death and stopping his advance.

Circuit Superstars 

Release Date: January 27

Platforms: PlayStation 4

Circuit Superstars is a top-down racer with a focus on skill and realism. Featuring dozens of different types of cars and challenging tracks, it will take players hours to master the complex gameplay to nail the perfect lap and beat the clock. The aim is to understand the nuances of each vehicle and learn how to get the best out of them in every situation. 

Rugby 22

Release Date: January 27

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

Rugby 22 is the latest entry in the long-running sports simulation series focusing on rugby. It features all of the biggest clubs and competitions from the sport along with all of the famous players. It also includes online and offline modes as well as a deep tactical system to add more depth to the gameplay. 

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Release Date: January 28

Platforms: Nintendo Switch

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is the latest game in Nintendo’s RPG series. Set in the distant past, it is an action RPG that has a different gameplay focus compared to previous entries in the franchise. It acts as a prequel with players having to put together the very first Pokédex. The main character can take damage from roaming creatures and capturing Pokémon involves using wooden Pokéballs.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection

Release Date: January 28

Platforms: PlayStation 5

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is a remastered bundle of the most recent Uncharted games launching on PlayStation 5. It includes upgraded visuals, a stable 60 FPS frame rate, and near-instantaneous load times. The collection contains the award-winning Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
