Last week, Boss Key Productions’ Cliff Bleszinski revealed on Twitter that his company almost produced an Aliens FPS. In response, 3D Realms vice president Frederik Schreiber has replied that his studio was also in talks to develop an Aliens FPS. But then the Disney/Fox merger happened and “it all fell to the ground.”
The concept was a four-player co-op, PvE game based on the Aliens series. “A misfitting mix of colonists and marines fight together for their lives against a protective alien queen who’s willing to do whatever it takes to safeguard her eggs,” the description reads. Also, there were supposed to be “several unique settings of levels each with its own style and challenges” because the game has promised dozens of alien Queens. Add long-range content releasing and maybe it could have been a pretty good L4D-like game with a lot of interactive cooperation between players.
In my opinion, Bleszinski’s game sounds closer to the original Alien atmosphere because it seemed to be more about being one-on-one with these terrible ruthless predators in an enclosed space. But after all, if I could feel the same playing with a few friends, I’d let them take my money.
