CD Projekt RED Teases New Witcher Game to Follow Cyberpunk 2077

March 12, 2020

The head of CD Projekt RED Adam Kiciński has confirmed to journalists that the studio will create another game set in The Witcher universe right after Cyberpunk 2077. The news was originally reported on the Polish site Stooq.pl.

According to Kiciński, the new Witcher will still be a single-player RPG. CD Projekt already has a concept which is being worked on by a small team inside the studio. The production of the next Witcher game is expected to be completed in four years. Apparently, if all goes well, the release will take place around 2025.

Now there are three main development teams in CD Projekt. The first big one is engaged in Cyberpunk 2077 and its DLC (at least two add-ons are planned). The second big development team is working on multiplayer for Cyberpunk 2077 (which should appear beyond 2021). And the third and smallest development team takes care of the Witcher game.

Kiciński emphasizes that the next game in the series is not The Witcher 4: it is not a direct sequel and Geralt will not be the main character. In the foreseeable future, CD Projekt will have only two major game franchises: Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher.

In addition, Kiciński said that Cyberpunk 2077 is moving steadily towards release on September 17. CD Projekt does not yet believe that the release date will be affected by coronavirus or other factors.
