Control Sequel and Multiplayer Spinoff Coming From Remedy

June 30, 2021

Control ended up being a surprise hit among fans and critics alike in 2019. Now, Remedy Entertainment and 505 Games have announced they are working on both a sequel and a multiplayer spinoff.

The spinoff is codenamed Condor. It takes place in the familiar Control universe but focuses on multiplayer instead of a single-player story. Previously, these devs have mostly been known for their single-player narratives, and they understand that players might be wary of a multiplayer spinoff.

In a statement, Remedy game director Mikael Kasurinen said, “We get that there is going to be skepticism about multiplayer. But I believe we can create shared experiences without compromising the unique DNA of who we are, or the stories we want to tell. Yes, we need to re-think our angles, our techniques, our mindset, but we see it as an exciting challenge.”

Additionally, he believes the world of Control is big enough to try some new things. “Control is first and foremost a world, a place for multitudes of stories, events, and characters,” he said. “A place where unexpected, strange, and extraordinary things occur. We kicked it off with Jesse’s entry into the Oldest House, but there is more to this world. Oh, so much more.”

He promises that the Control sequel will have a “bigger budget,” but didn’t volunteer any additional info. Right now, the team’s marketing focus seems to be project Condor.
