April 16, 2021

Capcom hosted a Resident Evil Showcase on Thursday, making a whole host of announcements about the survival horror franchise. Here are all the major announcements from the Resident Evil Showcase.

Resident Evil Village debuts a new trailer

One of the most important reveals from the showcase was a brand new trailer for Resident Evil Village. The brief video gives players a closer look at the village itself along with the characters that inhabit the location.

Resident Evil Village will get Mercenaries mode

The publisher also announced that Mercenaries mode is returning to the franchise after an extended hiatus. This is a time trial mode whereby users compete to earn high scores. In Resident Evil Village, players will be able to use weapon shops between rounds and collect a variety of upgrades.

Resident Evil Village extended gameplay demo coming soon

PlayStation 5 owners have already been able to try out a small demo for Resident Evil Village. However, next week will see an extended demo become available for all PlayStation platforms.

The demo will come to other platforms from May 1, although players will only have an hour to play the two modes on offer. This includes the Village demo and the Castle demo, which will be two separate experiences.

Resident Evil 4 VR coming to Oculus Quest 2

Capcom further announced that Resident Evil 4 is coming to virtual reality via the Oculus Quest 2. This will involve shifting the perspective from third-person to first-person and taking advantage of the motion controls available in the VR headset.

Resident Evil / Dead By Daylight crossover announced

The final announcements concerned two collaborative projects. The first is a crossover between Resident Evil and Dead By Daylight, which will see characters from Resident Evil come to Dead by Daylight. While the brief teaser did not give away many details, more will be shown on May 25 as part of Dead By Daylight’s fifth-anniversary livestream event.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness film set for July

Finally, Capcom gave out some new information about the Netflix animated movie Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. The title is set to debut on the streaming service in July 2021. Set two years after the events of Resident Evil 4, it will follow Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield as they help defend the White House against a zombie outbreak.
