Finish Him! First Trailer for ‘Mortal Kombat’ Movie Features Gore and Fatalities

February 18, 2021

The first trailer for the new Mortal Kombat movie gives us a solid glimpse of the characters and action we can expect to see in the film. And based on the trailer, franchise fans should be very excited about this upcoming film!

Even if you haven’t played a Mortal Kombat game in a long time, you will recognize most of these characters. We see Sonya talking about an encounter with Sub-Zero that left Jax with no arms. And we find out that Sonya is now trying to protect a man named Cole Young (played by Lewis Tan) who is being hunted by Sub-Zero.

As for Cole, he is an MMA fighter who has fallen on hard times. But he now has a mysterious dragon mark on his body that serves as an invitation to compete in the Mortal Kombat tournament.

While that’s our skeletal plot, the trailer is mostly concerned with showcasing action. We see Sub-Zero squaring off against multiple opponents, including a battle with Scorpio near the end. Along the way, we see plenty of blood and fatalities as Sub-Zero uses his cryomancy skills to dispatch his foes and Liu Kang channels his inner dragon to bloody results.

Look close and you’ll see glimpses of other fan-favorite characters such as Raiden, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Mileena, and even Goro! We also see Kano squaring off against the mysterious Reptile.

Mortal Kombat is directed by Simon McQuoid and will be released theatrically on April 16. The film will also premiere on the same day on HBO Max for a period of 31 days. Only then can fans determine if this movie is better than the original 1995 Mortal Kombat (a movie some say is the best video game adaptation ever created).
