Loki Is the Reluctant Hero of the Multiverse in New ‘Loki’ Disney+ Trailer

April 5, 2021

He’s not the hero we deserve, but he’s the hero we need right now, okay?

That’s the vibe of trailer #2 for Marvel’s Loki, which you can watch below. In it, the adopted Asgardian, whom we last saw in Avengers: Endgame escaping his brother Thor with the Tesseract, finds himself as the reluctant savior of the multiverse.

The trailer hinges on the unlikely partnership of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Mobius (Owen Wilson), a member of the Time Variance Authority, a bureaucratic organization in charge of monitoring the multiverse and preventing dangerous timelines.

“We protect the proper flow of time,” Mobius says. “You picked up the Tesseract, breaking reality. I want you to help us fix it.”

For Loki fans who have watched the character go from villain to anti-hero and back to villain again over the course of the past 10 years, it’s a chance for the fan-favorite god of mischief to finally embrace his heroic side.

“You really believe in this Loki variant?” Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Judge Renslayer asks.

“Luckily he believes in himself enough for the both of us,” Mobius replies.

The trailer is a blend of humor, action, and Easter Eggs. Fans will spot Loki’s iconic daggers flipping move that was used in trailers for Thor: Ragnarok but edited out of the final film.

Gamers in particular will appreciate the appearance of Polybius, a game of urban legend that never actually existed. It suggests Loki visits a timeline where it does indeed exist.

Meanwhile, fans are speculating that Black Widow and the planet of Vormir (where she died) make an appearance.

Loki premieres June 11 on Disney+. The six-episode series also stars Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku, and Richard E. Grant. It is directed by Kate Herron, and Michael Waldron serves as head writer.
