New Social Features Coming to Epic Games Store Including Voice Chat and a Party System

March 18, 2021

The Epic Games Store will be leveling up soon with social features that players have been demanding. This includes Discord-style voice and text chat and even a party system for players.

All of these new features are part of Epic’s mission to seriously compete with major platforms such as Steam. And in a recent blog post, Epic detailed its plans to take things to the next level.

Adding the text and party chat is part of Epic’s short-term plans. These plans also include better social search features, customizable player cards, and even a Do Not Disturb feature. Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly when any of these new features will go live.

Epic makes the upcoming party system sound user-friendly. Since parties do not have designated hosts, players can come and go as they please. Teammates share party controls, and players can use a dedicated party window to share gaming highlights and continue chatting with one another while launching and playing games.

One bit of sad news is that Epic is ditching their rarely-used Whisper feature. However, they hope to bring it back at some point in the future.

For fans of Epic, all of this amounts to some very good news. These moves showcase the company’s commitment to improving your experience while providing “more features that connect you to your friends and to the games you love.”

Will you be partying up with your friends in the Epic Games Store once these features go live? Let us know in the comments!
