Nintendo Finally Adds Online Multiplayer to Super Mario Party

April 27, 2021

Today, Nintendo released the 1.1.0 update for Super Mario Party. This update finally adds a feature players have requested since the game’s release two and a half years ago: online multiplayer.

If you don’t know, Super Mario Party has 80 different minigames. Thanks to this update, 70 of those minigames now feature online multiplayer.

Which games don’t have online multiplayer? Those games are as follows:

  • All-Star Swingers
  • Baton and On
  • Clearing the Table
  • Fiddler on the Hoof
  • Pep Rally
  • Rhythm and Bruise
  • Strike It Rich
  • Take a Stab
  • Time to Shine
  • Wiped Out

For other games, you can start online multiplayer by selecting Mario Party, Partner Party, or Minigames and then clicking on “Online Play.”

It’s possible to play games with your existing friends list or to play “private” games with other players by using passwords. With multiple players playing on multiple Switches, you can have up to four players at a time in online multiplayer.

Ultimately, players will file this update under “better later than never.” And only time will tell if this belated update can bring this party game back to life.
