Nintendo Indie World Showcase Recap: Every Major Announcement

August 11, 2021

Nintendo unleashed their latest Indie World showcase on us today. And we’ve got a roundup of all the announcements and reveals concerning current and future games for the Nintendo Switch.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk

One of the first games showcased was Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.

The general premise is that you are a musician trying to become a star, and the game will feature plenty of (as yet unnamed) musical talent when it launches in 2022. But right now, the biggest draw is that this game has similar aesthetics to fan-favorite title Jet Set Radio.

Toem: A Photo Adventure

Toem: A Photo Adventure was showcased, and it stands out by being a top-down title presented like a black-and-white cartoon.

This game looks like a great way to relax. There is calming music, photography-centric gameplay, and beautiful levels inspired by Scandinavian landscapes. Check this one out when it launches this fall.

Loop Hero

Loop Hero came out on PC previously, and gamers really loved it. Now, this beloved title is coming to Nintendo Switch this holiday season.

Check out the trailer to see how every card you play in the game can have profound effects on your character!

Far: Changing Tides

Far: Changing Tides was released previously to PC and other consoles and serves as the sequel to Far: Lone Sails.

This atmospheric title centers around exploring the ocean. And you can launch your voyage on the Switch in 2022.

Metal Slug Tactics

Since the heyday of arcades and the Neo Geo, the Metal Slug games have been enthralling players. Now, Metal Slug Tactics gives us a new way to play in this bright and zany world.

This new game won’t launch until 2022. But you can console yourself by playing previous franchise entries on the Nintendo Switch.

Tetris Effect: Connected

Tetris Effect: Connected previously came out for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

The Nintendo Switch will be getting this multiplayer-centric title on October 8. But it remains to be seen whether true Tetris diehards will be able to tear themselves away from the amazing Tetris 99.

Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon

The Shovel Knight series basically brought 2D platforming back to life, and Pocket Dungeon adds even more mystery-solving action to this platforming favorite.

This title will come out for the Switch this holiday season and feature more than 10 playable heroes. And, of coure, it will have special functionality with the Shovel Knight Amiibo that lets you call in a friendly fairy for help.

Games out today

Of course, the showcase didn’t exclusively focus on games coming out in the future. It also focused on several awesome games that are out to play right now.

This includes Necrobarista: Final Pour, which is a timed-release exclusive for the Switch. You can also play Islanders: Console Edition, Slime Rancher, and Curious Expedition 2 today. Finally, you can now play hotly-anticipated titles like Garden Story, Boyfriend Dungeon, and, most surprisingly, Axiom Verge 2.

Future titles to look forward to

There were a few games in the showcase today that were just brief parts of a sizzle reel. This includes Gang Beasts (launching Fall 2021), Astroneer (launching January 2022), Lumberbear Jack (launching in 2022), and Hundred Days (launching this winter).

Which title are you most excited for? Be sure to let us know in the comments!
