PlayStation 5 Console Covers Coming in January 2022

December 13, 2021

If you want to change the look of your PS5, you’re in luck. That’s because Sony has announced special console covers coming in January 2022 that can seriously change the appearance of your PlayStation.

The first covers will match the existing controller covers: Midnight Black and Cosmic Red. The next set of covers will have brand-new colors. Visually, Sony describes these covers as “galaxy-inspired.” These new colors are as follows: Galactic Purple, Nova Pink, and Starlight Blue. Each cover will cost $55 and will be compatible with the standard and Digital Edition PS5 consoles.

If you want your controllers to match the new colors, you won’t have to wait long. Sony is also releasing new DualSense controllers in the same colors, so you can get a new plate and a new controller for a slick new aesthetic.

What prompted Sony to start working on these covers? There is a chance that someone at Sony remembered how much Xbox 360 fans loved to buy new faceplates for that console and decided to bring the gimmick back for their own game systems. It’s more likely, though, that Sony saw other companies making a profit by selling plates (including the company Dbrand, which Sony threatened with a lawsuit) and decided they shouldn’t leave some money on the table.

If you want to go ahead and pre-order one of these PS5 covers, you can do so via Sony’s official website. The black and red covers will be coming in January 2022, with the other colors coming in the first half of the year. Although for many gamers this holiday season, the bigger challenge is still managing to find and purchase a PlayStation 5 in the first place!
