Pokémon Go Halloween 2021 Event: Everything You Need to Know

October 13, 2021

This year will mark the sixth time that Niantic has “treated” players to a Halloween event for Pokémon Go. And now, the developer has revealed all of the awesome things that gamers can look forward to during this spooky season.

When does the Halloween event start?

Ready to get this scary party started? Good news: the Pokémon Go event is kicking off this Friday, Oct. 15. And this “Halloween Mischief” event has many cool features for players.

What’s new with the Halloween event?

It’s one thing to have a Halloween event, and another to have something players can look forward to. Fortunately, there are two major parts to the event: Creepy Companions and Ghoulish Pals. Throughout the event, players can look forward to getting 2x Candy when they catch, hatch, or transfer Pokémon. And when you walk with your chosen buddy during the event, you are guaranteed to get Candy XL.

Size matters

The biggest news (quite literally) for the event relates to Pokémon sizes. You will be able to encounter Pumpkaboo Pokémon that later evolve into Gourgeist. However, there are Pumpkaboo of multiple sizes out there, and the bigger one you capture, the bigger the Gourgeist you can evolve it to. While this is unconfirmed, some players are hoping there will be a similar mechanic to change the size of other Pokemon as well.

Other special features

What else can players look forward to? For one thing, there will be a special Collection Challenge that involves hunting down elusive Ghost-type Pokémon. Speaking of that, you’ll see more spooky Pokémon throughout the event, including Dark-, Ghost-, and Psychic-type Pokémon.

You can also look forward to the return of certain Pokémon, including Phantump and Trevenant. You will also be able to evolve Galarian Slowpoke into Galarian Slowking and encounter Mega Absol during Mega Raids.

Want a real “treat” for playing? In that case, be sure to grab the Shiny Spinarak that is available for the first time during this event.

Finally, there is a treat for longtime franchise fans: if you play Pokémon Go at night, you’ll hear the Lavender Town music in the background. Just make sure not to read any Lavender Town creepypasta stories before you head to bed!
