August 2, 2021

A special promotion in Australia that would have seen the famous fast-food company give away 50 special McDonald’s-themed PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers has been blocked by Sony.

The special DualSense would have featured the famous red, white, and yellow colors of McDonald’s as well as fries and a burger. The promotion was supposed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first restaurant opening in Australia.

Speaking to Press Start, a spokesperson for McDonald’s Australia explained that its plans had not been authorized by Sony. The promotional event, which was supposed to start on Sunday, has now been delayed, with no new date announced. PlayStation controllers will not be part of the giveaway, which will instead feature hoodies and channel subscriptions as prizes.

“Sony PlayStation has not authorized the use of its controller in promotional materials related to the proposed Stream Week event and we apologies for any inconvenience caused,” McDonald’s Australia said. “McDonald’s stream week has been postponed and Sony PlayStation controllers will not be included in the giveaway.”
