Sony Reveals First Look at PlayStation VR2, Its Next-Gen VR Headset

February 22, 2022

The PlayStation VR2 was announced one year ago for the PS5, and we have already seen what the controllers will look like. Now, Sony has revealed its first look at the headset via the PlayStation Blog.

Visually, the PSVR2 headset looks a lot like its predecessor, right down to the curved lines and monochrome aesthetic. But the new set is lighter, the vents are redesigned, and there are some nice improvements like a dial allowing you to adjust the lens.

The inside specs of the new headset are a serious improvement over the original. This includes eye tracking, 4K HDR, 110-degree FOV, haptic feedback, 90/120Hz frame rates, and more. And you can connect everything to your PS5 with one USB-C cable, which is great news for players who hated dealing with all those wires on the original.

We don’t yet know the exact release date for this new headset or even what its price will be. But we do know it has some major competition. While the original PSVR was an affordable entry-level VR experience, the new system must compete with things like the Oculus Quest 2 and the Valve Index. And since VR has become more commonplace, public expectations for the PSVR2 will be much higher.
