Fumihiko Yasuda, a game director at Team Ninja, has confirmed that Nioh 2 will be the last entry in the series.
Speaking in an interview with Japanese publication Famitsu, the developer explained that the Nioh franchise is no longer in production. That essentially means that the studio has no plans to create further sequels or spin-offs based on the hit RPG series.
The first entry in the franchise released in 2017 after more than half a decade in development. It was followed by a sequel that launched in March. However, it now seems like there will be no further sequels.
The interview, which was first reported and translated in the West by Twinfinite, offers no further insight on why the series has been dropped or what Team Ninja is now working on. But Yasuda does promise to make more announcements in 2021.
