Top 10 Games That Will Keep You Busy for Dozens of Hours

February 24, 2020

Buying games can be a big investment for some people. You have to find that perfect balance between price and content that leaves you both satisfied and content that you got your money’s worth. For some people, a quick and clean gaming experience of around 12 hours is perfect.

For others, games that pull you into a new world for dozens of hours are the best. Luckily, there are plenty of games like that out there. As such, we have decided to shine a spotlight on 10 games that offer dozens of hours of playtime.

Grand Theft Auto V

Some people may be surprised to hear that Grand Theft Auto V has been steadily growing for years. While the single-player aspect has been severely lacking, GTA Online is booming. Players have the options to plan out some great heists with friends, run businesses, and purchase the finer things in life. These purchases range from promising properties, dozens of weapons, and vehicles wacky enough to make Saint’s Row blush.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

When The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim released in 2011, it was the talk of the town because of the sheer amount of content that came with the title. Even at launch, Skyrim had plenty of options to take your character down. However, you will most likely be purchasing the Special Edition these days. This edition comes with all of the DLC bundled in, further expanding the adventures to be had.

The player can take on assassin contracts with the Dark Brotherhood or lift some easy coin with the Thieves’ Guild. You can even join the College of Winterhold to become the mage you always dreamed of being. Then again, you can do all of that stuff in a single playthrough, should you want to.

Dark Souls

The Dark Souls series is a franchise lauded for the challenge it presents. Going into a Souls game is an experience, as it takes dedication to study the gameplay and understand the leveling mechanics.

Once you do understand the game at hand, however, you may find yourself exploring the world for hours on end. Although, you may have to take the occasional break for sanity’s sake. If you really get into it, though, the game you’ve chosen will most likely call you back again and again. New Game Plus opportunities further extend the playtime of a Souls game, too.

Persona 5

Persona 5 is a fascinating game that offers both turn-based action and time management simulation. Sure, it is important to bring the big comeuppance to the bad guys. Have you wisely spent your time investing in social links, though?

Half of the game will be spent leveling up attributes that help you get to know friends better. The closer you are to your friends, the better you’ll do in the action-packed side of the game. Balancing both is a feat that will definitely take you near the 100-hour mark of gameplay. Then New Game Plus comes along and you’re in for the ride all over again.

Fallout 3

Upon release in 2008, Fallout 3 left players in awe of the expansive open world known as The Capital Wasteland. The ruins of Washington D.C. and surrounding areas are scattered with side content. From blowing up entire cities to stealing the Declaration of Independence, there’s plenty in Fallout 3 to hold your attention for weeks, if not years.

Monster Hunter: World

This gorgeous-yet-addicting game has a gameplay loop that will grip you for months. The game offers gorgeous locales, insane weaponry, and a roster of monsters to slay that keep things fresh for dozens of hours. Anyone with a weakness for loot and upgrades should definitely give Monster Hunter: World a look.

Yakuza 0

Yakuza 0 is a small game that offers so much. The story of Kazuma Kiryu is enthralling and well worth staying for. The side content, though, is another aspect of the game that shines brightly.

There are dozens of side missions that are absolutely fantastic. Plus, there are side campaigns revolving around two types of businesses. The first is the cabaret club that allows you to run a night club in 1980s Japan. The other is a real estate business that sounds boring, but is surprisingly very fun. Of course, there’s also much more to the game than that, as well.

No Man’s Sky

It’s no secret that No Man’s Sky was pretty awful on the game’s initial release day in 2016. What developer Hello Games has done with the title since then is a true redemption story, however.

The release of No Man’s Sky NEXT has added so much to the game that it might as well be a new title. It includes VR support, true multiplayer, story beats, and improved mechanics. All of this free content means players will be spending much more time exploring their galaxy.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a charming RPG with gorgeous art. Fans of the Ghibli anime films will definitely be drawn to this title, as those classics inspired the art style featured in the game.

It’s a good thing that Ni No Kuni is pretty to look at, too. The main story in the game goes well beyond the 70-hour mark. Plus, there is much side content and plenty of level grinding to be found in the fantasy world.

Super Smash Bros.

Super Smash Bros. has been a staple party game for decades now. The fun to be had blasting your friends off of stages is second to none. However, it can take a bit of time to truly master whatever character you choose to be main. Then again, it can also take a fair amount of time trying all of the characters out beforehand.

The multiplayer side of the game can take up hours and hours of your time. However, there is plenty more to do in Smash Ultimate. This game offers World of Light, a light story campaign for solo players. Plus, the insane amount of side content can take quite a while to fully unlock, too.
