April 29, 2021

Today, Sony unveiled their latest State of Play video. While there were updates about Subnautica: Below Zero and the PlayStation debut of Among Us, most of the presentation focused on the upcoming game Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Here are all the major announcements from Sony’s State of Play April 2021.

Subnautica: Below Zero trailer

The first thing the show focused on was a trailer for Subnautica: Below Zero. This sequel to the original hit game has been a hit in Early Access on Steam. Now, the game will be coming to PS4 and PS5 on May 14. PS5 players can look forward to 4K resolution, 60 FPS, Dual Sense controls, and even the ability to freely upgrade from the PS4 version.

Among Us coming to PS4 and PS5

The next announcement was that Among Us would be coming to PS4 and PS5 later this year. It will feature crossplay compatibility with other platforms and also feature Sony exclusive Ratchet & Clank skin, hat, and pet.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart gameplay footage

The bulk of today’s 37-minute State of Play, though, was about Rachet and Clank’s newest adventure. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is an upcoming title where Ratchet must find Clank while navigating a different dimension in which Dr. Nefarious is an evil emperor. Along the way, he has help from a new Lombax ally named Rivet.

Showcasing 15 minutes of new Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart gameplay footage, today’s presentation touched on the DualSense controller functionality for the game. The adaptive triggers and haptic feedback are supposed to make weapons and events feel more immersive. For example, when you use the new Shatterbomb, you can feel every impact that it makes.

The presentation also emphasized the SSD capabilities of the PS5. Thanks to the SSD, players can jump through rifts and instantly appear somewhere else with no delay or lag.

Finally, the presentation tantalized us about a few new features without getting into much detail. This included the game’s accessibility features as well as a new photo mode, air combat, and open areas for players to explore.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart releases on June 11 exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
